In 2006, Kaiser Permanente:
- Participated in 2,079 research and evaluation studies
- Published 685 articles and papers in more than 400 journals
- Invested approximately $66 million to educate health care professionals
- Trained 2,500 residents and interns in Northern and Southern California
- Enrolled 34 pharmacy students in our Pharmacy Residency Program
- Provided scholarships to 8,700 medical school students
- Expanded the pool of nursing students entering the workforce with more than $3 million in grants and on-site training
- Conducted Work Weight and Wellness Study, a 4-year, $5.7 million study to test worksite interventions designed to reduce obesity
- Conducted a research program on Genes, Environment and Health with 2 million participating Kaiser Permanente members
- Developed Nurse Knowledge Exchange, a patient safety initiative
- Partnered with Institute of Medicine to sponsor roundtables on Health Literacy and Health Disparities
- Received a $55 million Clinical and Translational Science Award from NIH to speed advancements in science from lab bench to bedside
