Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Cleveland 2008
This Community Health Initiative in Cleveland Ward 1 was initiated in 2006 to impact obesity and preventable disease rates in children and adults and to create opportunities for people to eat better and move more by impacting and improving policies and environments in the places where people live, work and play. HEAL grants were created to compliment community work around this public health initiative and to transform local physical activity and food environments by developing, implementing and evaluating sustainable policy, environmental and organizational practice changes in the Cleveland Ward 1 community.

Thriving Community Grants
The Kaiser Permanente of Ohio Regional Community Grants Program (Thriving Communities Grants) responds to requests from organizations delivering programs aligned with regional focus areas: prevention and early detection of health problems, and promotion of health among children and other vulnerable populations.
Some previous grants include:
A Kaiser Permanente grant to the Center for Families and Children helped provide a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment during the summer months for Greater Cleveland's low-income children. By creating an engaging, stimulating place where children were able to improve their language and literacy skills, the Summer Enrichment Program became a valuable community resource. This program proved especially useful for parents and guardians looking for quality childcare while they worked during the day, pursued job training, or took advantage of job placement programs.
A Kaiser Permanente grant was awarded to the YWCA Parents' Night Out. This program provided educational workshops for parents on a variety of topics, including childhood development, childhood behavioral challenges, and discipline issues, as well as cost-effective ways for creating nutritious meals and snacks.
Created by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cleveland, this structured day program provided boys ages 12-15 an opportunity to interact with positive adult role models. The intent of this program was to help these boys discover their own individual strengths and talents.
