Every year, several hundred medical residents and fellows build their physician skills through Kaiser Permanente rotations. More than half of these are preparing for primary care practices.
We also provide on-site clinical training for future nurse practitioners, physician assistants, optometrists, podiatrists, and behavioral health professionals.
Kaiser Permanente works with colleges and community organizations to increase the number of graduates who can deliver quality health care services. To address the growing shortage of nurses, we support nursing education in our region by making financial contributions to Chemeketa Community College. Other grants include:
On a national level, Kaiser Permanente's Institute for Health Policy works to increase understanding of key health policy issues. The Institute's goal is to provide balanced information useful to policy makers, researchers, analysts, and others who shape health care policies.
We participate in the Oregon Health Plan (OHP) and Washington Basic Health Medicaid programs, providing their members with care that is not completely reimbursed by the state.
The Dues Subsidy Program provides health care coverage to uninsured adults and children. We enroll several kinds of eligible people in Kaiser Permanente coverage, with no cost to them for premiums. We also work with other health plans, medical groups, trade associations, businesses, government organizations, and advocacy groups to build solutions for all uninsured children.
Helps community college students in the Single Parent Displaced Homemaker Program, and their dependents.
Provides zero-premium coverage for elementary school children in families with incomes below 250 percent of the federal poverty level, and who are not eligible for other types of public health insurance.
At frequent events, free dental checkups, X-rays, and treatment are provided for low-income children without dental insurance.
The Medical Financial Assistance Program provides financial relief to both members and nonmembers who are not able to pay for medical services. The program supports Kaiser Permanente's commitment to contributing to the overall health of the community by providing care at discounted rates to uninsured nonmembers and providing some financial assistance to eligible low-income members who have difficulty paying for health care services.

Using a fun, game show format, The Pressure Point! addresses important issues students deal with as they begin facing peer pressure and making their own decisions.
For middle school students
IF prompts students to visualize how they want their lives to be both now and in the future. The play encourages students to look at how choices affect our health and our lives, while focusing on the key messages of vision, choice, and leadership. IF is designed to be performed by students, for students, in two-week residencies. Students audition for roles, rehearse the piece, and then perform it for their peers, family, and community.
For Grades 4,-5
This one-hour interactive program encourages students to resolve conflicts in a way that demonstrates respect for themselves and others. The program introduces problem-solving techniques for issues such as peer pressure, bullying, and recognizing individual strengths. The messages support the Federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act.

Safety net clinics are nonprofit community organizations that care for people who are uninsured or underinsured. Their goal is to provide health care to those without access because they lack jobs or money. Kaiser Permanente supports the work of safety net clinics in a variety of ways, including direct financial contributions. We also give safety net health care providers opportunities to use our professional education resources for their professional development. In addition, we promote opportunities for Kaiser Permanente health care providers to serve safety net clinics on a volunteer basis.
