In 2009, in response to unprecedented demands, we increased our Community Benefit contributions and activities to a record level—$1.7 billion, a 43 percent increase over 2008. Investments and partnerships with communities in all of our regions across the country touched the lives of millions, either directly or indirectly.

In 2009, we gave grants and donations to 2,098 organizations in our communities nationwide, totaling $161 million—more than doubling the amount we gave in 2008.
